5 potential use cases for Arazzo

Bill Doerrfeld | January 30, 2025

Italian for “tapestry,” Arazzo is aptly named since it can be used to weave together sequences of API calls to illustrate a specific business pattern.

Digital interactions — like logging into an app, booking a flight, or making an online purchase — often involve a series of interconnected steps. Behind the scenes, these workflows rely on passing data between multiple services, yet they’re rarely documented in a standardized way.

That’s where Arazzo, a new open standard spec from OpenAPI Initiative, comes in. It could be a game-changer for making API-driven workflows more transparent, testable, and deterministic — which is especially intriguing for AI use cases.

I explored five key areas where Arazzo could have a big impact, from multi-endpoint libraries to standardizing patterns in unified APIs. Check out my breakdown on the Speakeasy blog.
